THE SIMRELL MMA ASSOCIATION TAKES 6TH OUT OF 100 TEAMS AT N.A.G.A.'S 2008 "BATTLE AT THE BEACH"!
On August 2-3, 2008, Rat Pack, along with Reality Martial Arts and Simrell MMA once again descended upon the Wildwood Convention Center for NAGA's "Battle at the
Beach" which is quickly becoming the most hotly contested grappling tournament on the East Coast.
By the end of the weekend, the Simrell MMA Association had racked up 23 medals in the Men's, Teen's and Children's Divisions ending up in 6th place
out of 100 teams in the overall team rankings.
In the mens division, RP's Doc Matt Nelson fought three hard matches to win the Beginners Masters division. Unfortunately, in order to do it he had
to beat our own Jeff Johnson who looked great in his first two matches and went 2-1 on the day in taking second. RP's Dennis "Iron Man" Ringler, in his usual style, showed up with very little training or
preperation and proceeded to destroy the Intermediate Master's Division nabbing the first place sword! On the RMA Side, Big Ryan Fryes dominated the Intermediate Masters Super Heavy's taking first place,
Sean Manni nabbed an Masters Intermediate Silver, Mike Kearse took second in the Open Advanced Division, Mike "No One Was sure of you last Name" took first in the Beginners Open Division and
Troy Minarovic took Bronze in the Men's White Belt, Gi
division. Total medals on the day, 4 Gold and 3 Silver and one Bronze. Great job guys. On day 2, the kids team showed up ready to fight and left with a ton or hardware. Dallas Miata fought
three tough matches in the Beginner Division ending up with a Silver, likewise Andrew Glass of RMA took second in his weight class in the Beginner Division. Both of these guys will take the gold at worlds,
guaranteed! Alicia, Olivia and Andrew Ringler all fought their hearts out and were rewarded with 3rd place medals in their respective beginners divisions. D-Boy was also relegated to third in the
advanced division. In a very unwise move, D decided not to cut weight and enter the 100 lbs division where the ultimate winner was an kid over whom he already has a NAGA win. D will be back at the worlds IN HIS PROPER WEIGHT
CLASS! Bryson Berard took silver in the Intermediate division losing only to a kid that had been in the advanced division,d as did Shannon Masington who moved up to intermediate for the first
time. Joey Bubble hit a stacked intermediate boys division which included this years Grapplers Quest champ (out of Pereira BJJ) and the young man who beat Joey in the World's by one point in the finals. Well
revenge is weet as Joey, in the last 30 seconds, pulled out a come from behin ankle lock submission tapping the Worlds champion on his way to a well earned second place. . Jake Christman
put on one hell of a show in the Begginer Division and in the process grabbed a well earned gold medal for the team. In the teens Jim Burke of RMA took second in the Novice division and Rat Pack's newest star,
Eric "Baby Bubba" Schaffer tapped three tough opponents in sweeping the Novice Heavyweight division. Well that's it guys, thanks again to all of the competitors who put it on the line for the
team. Congrats to the winners and for those who came up short, don't be discouraged, get back in the gym and let's get them at the Worlds later this year.
